Broken Fever

Friday marked the completion of my first week of student teaching, which really marked my first week of teaching as I have found my mentor teacher has a pension for slipping out of the classroom unannounced just before the bell rings leaving me to try to remember and present the lessons she neverwrites down.

Those 12 year olds don't miss a beat, but unfortunately for them neither do I. I saw them eyeing the giant red S on my ID tag...mistaking it for sub and positioning themselves for tomfoolery...but I headed them off at the pass and wowed them with my intimate knowledge of their classroom code of conduct (which, duh, I totally made up).

They got me back, though, by smothering me with their invisible adolescent cooties, which made me delirious by Friday afternoon and kept me in bed until Sunday morning. This morning I am still getting used to the wonders of swallowing without wincing in pain.

I spent yesterday evening making trading card of members of the 65th Congress (my fave is Charles Curtis) for a badass lesson on Prohibition - my diligence was rewarded with a snow day, which I am enjoying from the confines of the office of my paying job - oh well, a girl's got to eat.
