Back in Time to Be Gone Again

Ask be anything - what caused the annexation of Hawaii? What were the tactics of the Dirty Tricks team? How awesome was Morris Udall? Arthur Zimmermann? The "Half-Breeds" v. the "Stalwarts"? Why people love "Teflon Ron"? I can answer all of those, except for the last one; I have no idea why people love Reagan so much.

In an effort to save $200 and a lot of time, I CLEP'd US History II - an undergraduate course that I needed for my Social Studies teaching endorsement. Thanks to obsessive attention to the details of "Don't Know Much About History" mp3s, a ridiculous commitment to cataloging everything in my study guide on note cards, and Matt's exhaustive, encyclopedia-like knowledge of everything - I was able to test out of the class with an A.

The added benefit of this practice is that I learned a lot. I mean beyond the definitions of the Dawes Severity Act and the Taft-Hartley Act, and the Potsdam Conference. Our recent history is fascinating, if not a little depressing. In the illumination hindsight allows there is a buttload of corruption, misinformation, and war - and, most indicting of all, a largely uninformed or apathetic populace.

So, I have since shifted most of my internet attention from what Britney Spears wore to the grocery store to I don't know, stuff that might matter.
