How to Wake Up Happy

Matt and I got Sirius Satellite Radio a few months ago and discovered the greatest feature of all, FM transmission, which allows us to wake up to any one of nearly 200 quality radio stations (including OMGPlayboy Radio!?!?). This is probably the most significant quality of life improvement made since I moved in with him a year ago.

Now instead of waking to the god-awful end-of-the-world air-raid that is his alarm, we are enticed to rise to the soothing, yet energizing tones of Sirius 30: The Coffee House. The station has an annoying habit of frequently playing “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt – a song I hate so much that I will leave stores, houses, and moving cars if it comes on the radio. But, the Coffee House typically plays all those songs off Edie Brickell and Indigo Girls albums that you are totally too cool to own but not too sing to while you’re cleaning your bathroom. It’s not the best station we’ve got but it is absolutely necessary now that we wake up to it – we’ve tried a bunch alternatives and every one made us wake up wanting to die.

My most favorite days are ones (like today) when the first full song to play once the alarm has gone off at 7:07 is Peace Train by Cat Stevens Yusuf Islam. HOLY CRAP – it’s as if someone poured liquid happiness into a fine cup of coffee and served it to me in bed. I bounded to the shower smiling and I still feel fantastic. Thank you, Sirius; thank you, Yusuf Isam.
