This long weekend I ate a million delicious vegetable dishes and three different kinds of pie and then my parents and I drove up to the suburbs of Philadelphia to visit my grandmother (Grammie) and go to my sister's baby shower.
Erica, my sister-in-law, was full of life in more ways than one. She looked big and beautiful and the whole house bubbled with love and excitement. When I saw her last she was only about 2.5 months ago and she was really only "showing" because she had been eating more. I thought she might be enormous but she's just gained the customary 30 lbs.
I held her stomach and felt the baby kick - it's something I had only seen people do in movies - despite the bzillion babies born into my family in the last 10 years I never wanted to impose. It was probably one of the most amazing things I've ever felt.
I gave them the sweater I knitted for my future niece/nephew and immediately made plans for another - I'll hold off until I actually meet the little guy. If the it's a girl her initials will be BTW. I am thrilled about my impending aunthood - I think it is going to be a marvelous vocation.
