Hello, I Make Things

This Thursday I put the finishing touches on a fuzzy mohair sweater. It was a project I began earlier this year shortly after I learned to knit, but I'd put it and knitting aside for many months to consume lots of books (for fun and for school and occasionally for both) and feel guilty about doing things that weren't scholarly. But since this semester started I've been much more interested in clacking my knitting needles together than reading about classroom management.

And so, now I own this:

Which also looks like this:

I am going to say that I don't love it - it can out pretty much the way it was supposed to, but it's a boxy pattern and makes my already wide shoulders approach linebacker-grade. But I realized I picked the pattern because I thought I could handle it, not because I thought it was super-cute.

I've got a surprise baby sweater in the queue for my niece/nephew on the way (today it feels like a niece). It's meant to be a surprise, but it is totally safe to announce it on the WORLD WIDE WEB because despite regular prompting neither my sister nor my sister-in-law will ever read this thing.

Away, I love knitting.

Also, my domestic partner is a talented craftsman as well. Check out this gorgeous wine rack:

Nice sweater but what's coming out of your head in picture #2?
